so this dario marinelli score with the typewriter as the percussion is one of my favorite scores to write to (he won an oscar for it) #atonementwatch
ahhhh young saoirse...she has a real snap to her acting even though she was all of 13 when this was made #atonementwatch
green is such a telltale color in this film #atonementwatch
Briony is such a prissy persnickety WRITER early on, it's a great foreshadowing of how she prizes a grand narrative in her life over truth; anything to make the play #atonementwatch
the way this shot even shocked me when I first saw it, I can imagine how briony doesn’t really understand what she’s seeing #atonementwatch
Kiera is SO good in this film; she's playing the perfect type of character for her skillset: witty and slightly cold but willing to warm to the right person, like a clawed cat. When anyone questions her acting I send them right to this scene.

oh god here comes cumberbatch in his most creeptacular role; he makes my skin crawl #atonementwatch
this little weasel stache.....Thx I hate it #atonementwatch
I still want this suit #atonementwatch
the way he says top marks still makes me want to smack him #atonementwatch
I love that he puts on opera to type to on the hottest day of the year and it ignites his...passions #atonementwatch
the face of a man about to type “sweet sweet c*nt” #atonementwatch
the HEARTBREAK of him discovering he has delivered the wrong letter into the hands of a prying little girl who will absolutely read the damn thing #atonementwatch
"what's the worst word you can imagine?" - a girl who wants to be a writer so she thinks words have power but who doesn't yet understand nuance, irony, or play #atonementwatch
this shot! the way both celia and robbie are crucified for their love affair by a person who thinks they are seeing a horror story because she has no context other than her own imagination #atonementwatch
the fact that they profess love right before briony walks in still hurts my heart; she is seeing the beginning of a beautiful thing but she contorts it immediately in her mind into something malignant. the disconnect is so jarring #atonementwatch
and now it instantly becomes a story about class; the violence of it. celia won't admit what happened because she would have to admit to loving the housekeeper's son. benedict's character thinks he is entitled to take anything he wants, which is disgusting #atonementwatch
here's the thing: briony fancies herself a writer. above all. it's the ONLY way she's ever gotten attention in a house where her beautiful sister/golden brother dominate. so she writes the most fantastical story she can here. it's for attention. but is it evil? #atonementwatch
