so fitting that on this 1st day of latinx heritage month, I spent an hour session with my therapist talking about how, being an immigrant raised in the US, I struggle with a sense of belonging...
with the experience of having had to figure things out on my own that my peers had american/fluent/affluent parents to guide them through, the guilt that comes with having opportunities for financial + professional growth that my parents could have never dreamed of having
my take away (there always is one): I’ll work every day to honor the sacrifices that my parents made not only to open every door but to demolish the f****** whole building so I could be whoever I wanted to be without the instability that held us back in Argentina
Latinos - first, second, third, all generations - are resilient, hardworking, beautiful people grounded in the values and cultures that we come from. And most importantly, regardless of immigration status, we are American. Happy Latinx/Hispanic heritage month y’all!!!!!!
