Nashville council starts off w remarks from Mayor @JohnCooper4Nash against referendum effort to repeal 34% property tax increase. Says city will be "unrecognizable." Emergency response slowed, teachers leaving, projects stopped. "We will have no path forward to fix our finances."
Comptroller Wilson makes a return visit to say a balanced budget is required, or risk of state stepping in. Would be like teenager coming to parent for $20 bucks for the movies, in order to pay for city costs.
Wilson says he doesn't have an opinion of the property tax rate but says the city needs to have cash on hand to pay for operations, debt and obligations. "Dangerous curve" ahead. Asks the city to act, including tonight by delaying spending, preserving cash.
