The 1619 project may be the first example of a country telling kids a "noble lie" about history that is WORSE - not better - than the reality. The USA did have slaves, but we did NOT fight the Revolution to keep them, or get rich only because of them, or hold them for 400 years.
I'm always open to constructive criticism. If scholars on the thread feel a better summary of 1619's point is: "USA fought the RW PRIMARILY to keep slaves, got rich PRIMARILY b/c of slavery, and had 400 years of slavery AND UNENDING OPPRESSION," that may be fair. Still disagree.
One key point here is that the United States literally BEGAN IN 1776. We were all oppressed (heavily taxed, not officially represented, limited rights) Brit subjects before the "war of Independence." We haven't had 400 years of anything.
