Going to do a thread from @KamalaHarris first trip back to her home state of California since the pandemic ramped up in March, with a laser focus on Wildfire damage in Sierra Nevada foothills

During a briefing on the Creek Fire, @KamalaHarris asked lotsa questions

In a moment of levity, she agreed with a fire official that firefighters never brag. @GavinNewsom said comically he wouldn’t quite say never. Harris then joked “well I’m not in charge of their budget”

But a majority of the questions reflected the moment, about sustained damage, population sized impacted, what different symbols means and how the firefighters were doings with the long hours

Talking to the press @KamalaHarris gave somber remarks infront of a playground covered in ash, saying yet again California has been hit.

“You’ll see where the fire has just swept through. Everything is gone except the chimney,” she said. “Those chimneys remind me of tombstones.

I asked @KamalaHarris what is the established plan if she or @JoeBiden contacts Covid-19 between now and the election, as they have ramped up their physical campaigning and get tested regularly

“The plan is not to get it... PERIOD” she said, laughing

Next stop was an evacuation center inside a local school gym in Fresno. Harris thanked the volunteers and told them said, “I know you’re helping people you’ve never met before, who you’ll never meet again and may never know your name.”

And in a surprise stop, Harris brought lunch to the Fresno Fire Dept and posed for photos
