A thread I'm not sure how to categorize. Ready?

So I've always hung around in groups where my subjects of expertise are discussed, and sometimes answered questions or shared free educational content I've produced.
I've generally felt like this was being generous and constructive, you know? From making a free video or instructional blog post to answering specific questions, I've felt like this was... you know, not a dick move on my part.
But lately, like the past couple of years, there are more online spaces where people are like "don't share content you've made" and in one case someone even directly told me that me answering questions in a conversation was obviously advertising my work as a teacher.
And I struggle with this, you know?

Like, I get it: it would be uncool if what I did was say "Here's the teaser for my upcoming class! Pay me money and I'll answer!" or "Take this to my Patreon and I'll tell you!" or whatever.

And yeah, sure, my profile links those things...
But if nobody who's a pro or an expert ever joins any of those groups or shares any links, then what, you have a bunch of people who don't know shit answering questions for other people who don't know shit, and that's... better?

So my question is...
AITA for sometimes sharing a free video or blog post or whatever, that specifically answers a question in my area of expertise, without being like "and if you like me, go buy my shit" or whatever? Like is that just an asshole thing to do now and I'm hopelessly old & don't get it?
