Missed the live streaming of the #AppleEvent due to internal meetings, so pardon the 3hr+ delay

Apple Watch: Tim Cook definitely has it right on the Watch being more than just for telling time, hoo boy!
Hitting hard with the health benefits. As per usual, the testimonials are VERY compelling

Sleep tracking, Hand washing detection, and VO2 Max rolling out in WatchOS 7 (ICYMI from this year's WWDC Keynote).
And may I say, those are some damn sexy colors they are rolling out for the Series 6! I’m really diggin’ that blue!

( @SportingKC Indigo, anyone? #SKCTID)
Okay, have to leave this thread here. Will pick it back up later.
Okay, I take that back. Maybe the VO2 Max wasn’t announced at this year’s WWDC? Blood oxygen definitely wasn’t. And the Altimeter is pretty useful.
(Will be using both Blood O2 and Altimeter the next time we go to Cusco & Machu Picchu)
New faces, obvis. We’ll see how many of them I’ll actually use, because complications!
The continuous band and the braided band are HAWT!!!

#AppleEvent
Family Setup with school time mode is very timely. Not digging the obligatory cellular for compatibility tho 😑
Apple Watch SE makes a lot of since. I’m surprised they didn’t roll that out with Series 3, tbh đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž
It may all be corporate propaganda, but I have to applaud a company of Apple’s stature being 100% carbon neutral.
Ah, it comes at the cost of removing the USB power adapter from shipping with the Watch. Hrm

I mean, I get it. Just kinda rough for first time buyers.
Alright, that’s it for tonight. Family life calls.
P.S. The shipping dates on the Watches quickly went from a couple of weeks to a couple of months in mere hours! Apple certainly knows how to gin up demand 😆
P.P.S. The Blue Aluminum is clearly the new hotness — doesn’t ship till the middle of November now.

Good morning! Picking the thread back up

And a bunch of other stuff it already does.

Fitness+: New service that integrates with your
Activity app? That’s interesting, looks like they’ve reduced the tab bar from 5 to 3
maybe the UI changes when you turn on the subscription?
Cross-device synching of activities and metrics is pretty cool! I mean, that’s how it _should_ be, but easier said than done. #UX
Ohhhhh, that’s right! They announced the name change of Activity -> Fitness at WWDC. So this service upgrades that experience. Seems very timely with the pandemic and people staying home more (myself included!)
The integration with Apple Music is also pretty interesting. It may lean on more of the classic Apple cool factor than practicality, but, again, I applaud the interoperability.
The family account support without additional charge is pretty smart, too. Kind of the right thing to do, considering present circumstances

Also, understandable that they would roll out to English-speaking countries first (largest market share), but I would hope they sort out the i18n quickly (speaking as a member of a bilingual family).
Apple One: Services package (was only a matter of time). Individual, Family, and Premier tiers. Includes*:
- Music
- TV+
- Arcade
- iCloud Storage
- News+
- Fitness+

(*depending on tier)
The simple math is if 2–3 of these as separate services cost more at aggregate than an Apple One tier, people will convert. Kind of a no-brainer.
Of course the catch is if customers already have these services bundled under, say, their cellular carrier. Will be interesting to see how Apple sorts that out.
For the sake of finishing the thread, picking up where I left off.

I don’t think it has ever taken me this long to get through a 1-hour announcement 😬

iPad: Wow has it been 10 years already?
iPad, 8th Gen: Performance upgrades via the A12 bionic chip!
(I honestly don’t get that deep into the guts of the devices, but I do understand things like faster graphics processing and lower latency)
Interesting to see them promote the Logitech keypad along side their own smart keyboard (both of my daughters received 7th Gen iPads + Logitech Rugged Combo Keyboard from school this year).
Better support for Apple Pencil (via iPadOS 14) with smart selection, copy/paste, and conversion of handwritten text.

Scribble, which supports handwritten text in input fields, looks pretty cool (assuming it works as advertised).

All of which was previewed this year in WWDC.
They talk a lot about Apple Pencil, but that’s the 1st Gen Pencil (same as the 7th Gen iPad). Still only the iPad Pro that supports 2nd Gen Pencil.
I take that back — 4th Gen iPad Air supports 2nd Gen Pencil now!
iPad Air: Now in Technicolor!
Touch ID integrate into the top button? That’s actually pretty cool and feels smart. Hope it’s shock resistant!
A14 bionic chip. Again, not my expertise, but the thought of cramming 11.8 billion transistors @ 5 nanometers each into the chip blows. my. mind.
Working with air gestures on a turntable app for live DJing definitely brings the wow factor.

(Yes, I know the Microsoft Surface has supported air gestures for a few years now)
Finally, a USB-C port! Another “but Android has already done this” moments, but I’m just glad that Apple is embracing the standard đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž
Magnetic attachment for Pencil for pairing, charging, storage (just like iPad Pro).
And also compatible with the new floating design Magic Keyboard (just like iPad Pro).
I’m sure you’ve already seen the “Colorized iPad Pro” takes by now (because I’m so behind on this thread) and I think it’s pretty accurate. Esp. if you’re not a super user that needs all of what an actual iPad Pro offers.
I think I may also finally be to the point where I understand the difference between the various iPad models, but mainly because I’m actively working on tablet apps now.
ICYMI: iOS 14, iPadOS 14, and watchOS 7 updates started rolling out yesterday (Wed, Sept 18).
Aaaaand that’s a wrap! We’ll see what the remaining announcements bring us in October (and maybe I’ll be able to run a thread closer to real-time by then).
