The other day I was happily watching a stream when the streamers in question starting chatting about how they weren't going to vote in the upcoming US elections. This made me so angry I had to leave, and is still upsetting me several days later. (1/8)
So this is why I am posting a long thread on a twitter I barely use; to say please, please do make the effort to vote, whether it's in the upcoming US election or any future elections you qualify for across the globe. (2/8)
"Protest votes" do nothing. There's no third option where none of the current candidates get in and you get to pick someone you fully agree with. Politics is sadly about picking the least worst option, not the ideal. (3/8)
So even if you don't like the candidate your usual party puts forward, take a long look at the opposition and think "would I rather they got in?" Because people "protest voting" is how my country ended up in Brexit hell and the US got a megalomaniac tangerine put in charge (4/8)
I am trans, and I don't have the luxury of being able to just get kind of annoyed if a far right-wing candidate gets in. The lives and rights of myself and people I know are in genuine danger. The same goes for all oppressed minorities. (5/8)
Even if you are a straight, white, cisgender, non-disabled, healthy male, you will have people around you who aren't those things. Who could suffer because of who ends up running the show. So please think of them, and go out to vote even if you aren't happy with the options (6/8)
And if you are in a minority, people have literally died for the right for oppressed groups to vote. Don't insult their memory by throwing that gift away. Even now some groups of people are having their means of voting removed. Please fight for this vital democratic right. (7/8)
If you're reading this, please signal boost this message, whether by retweeting this thread or writing some words of your own to post. As has been said many times before, evil only thrives when good people stand by and do nothing. Thank you, and everyone take care out there (8/8)
