Solidarity for the @WASPI_Campaign today. Sad they lost their appeal and 1000's of women are living on or below the poverty line because of 3 abrupt raises to the pension age. It beggars belief that EQUALITY was cited as a reason for these unfair/sudden pension changes when:
1) Women of the 1950s have been been subjected to direct & indirect discrimination, and inequality their entire lives - including pension inequality.
2) Women have on average £7k a year less pension than men.
3) Women in the U.K earn on average £6k less than men a year and it's a larger gap the older they get.
4) Until reform, the state pension originally treated women as being able to rely on husbands pensions but this does not make allowances for divorcees or same sex couples (and some widows)
5) The mean pension wealth of women aged 65 - 69 is just one fifth that of men.
6) The median pension wealth for women aged 65 - 69 is £100,000 less than men.
7) Women born in the 1950s were exepected to look after the children, meaning they are more likely to have larger gaps in their employment, meaning gaps in NI contributions.
8) 23% of working women fall under the £10,000 P.A earning threshold to qualify for auto enrollment of a workplace pension by their employers compared to just 12% of working men.
9) Older women are statistically more likely to be rejected for jobs than older men and half as likely to be called for a second interview than women under 45.
10) Statistically, older women are more vulnerable to financial difficulties than men, with Black women, women of other ethnic minorities and women from the LGBT community even further disproportionately disadvantaged.
But...Thank goodness things are EQUAL now. Good job! #Equality
