I just cannot help feeling that much of history's Latinx movements have been bc "brown"Luhteenos were outraged they were being treated like Black ppl. It's certain things abt the Felicitas Mendez case that don't sit right with my spirit. Just the nagging antiblackness of it all
It's just I know too much. And when I say I "know too much" it's I know wtf I see and experience for 34 years. Most brown Latinxs are HYPER concerned to not be grouped in nor treated as Black ppl. In AND out of Latin America. They cannot bear the thought of it.
They may be a lowly nonwhite but *AT LEAST* they are not Black. *At least* their hair is straight, *at least* their skin isn't "as dark." *At least* they arent from *that* part of town. *At least* they have a family member who has money/access/position. This is what rules LatinAm
This is the everyday DAILY occurrences. So much of the mestizo outrage (I feel) is that they are getting "mistreatment" in the U.S. that they themselves have always reserved for the Black and indigenous folks in their countries. The gag is this U.S. "mistreatment" isn't even
half of the mistreatment they perpetuate in their own countries. They cry bc someone said "you must know how to dance salsa" upon finding out their Hispanic surname. Well no one needs to know my name to treat us like dirt. Y'all do it ON SIGHT.
Much of Black Latin Americans existing has been a hearty and justified mistrust of not only white Latin Americans but also pale folks, mixed folks, mestizos, white mestizos, and indigenous folks as well. They are united in their antiblackness and act on it at all times.
So idk. This is why U.S. Latinx movements do NOT speak to me, with me, or for me. It doesn't move me. I am not seent in them. Black movements however...DO.
So again, this is my lifelong experience. I'm not gon pretend white/mestizo whites concerns, struggles and gripes are my gripes. They are not. They the ones tombout deportation in the U.S. while championing deportation in their own countries. Miss me with that. Completely.
Imma start recording my Uber rides in Panama. Cuz every time I have a white/white mestizo driver they barely even greet me when I enter the car. They barely say one word. Don't even look at me. This is quite normal among my interactions with them for the past 34 years so....
It's "brown" LatinAm police officers beating Black people to death in front theirown home, burning children alive, shooting us, killing us w impunity &making public policy to keep it that way. I got nothing for "brown" Luhteenos. I am Black. Y'all never let me forget it either
And this is why the white/white mestizo Luhteenos always jump up foaming at the mouth "AND WHAT ABOUT THE LUHTEENOS" the nanosecond Black people gettin shine. It's not "supposed to be this way." The Blacks aren't "supposed to outshine them." They are acting out what they view
as their birthright. The unredeemable Blacks, descendants of the cursed Ham, should not be gaining any grounds at all but especially not before the white/white mestizo and even indigenous Luhteenos. This is a total subversionof the "natural" order of things as they were taught.
They were promised that if they were white and/or can approximate whiteness they would be handsomely rewarded so it is no wonder they become rabid when Black people get shine by simply being our full incredible selves. It makes them sick to even think about it. SICK!
