I want to be sure you have accurate information about camp abatements and the way we've asked the county health department to approach them in Salt Lake City.

1) People will have proper advance notice that a cleaning event will happen. #utpol #slc https://twitter.com/SLCgov/status/1305929630465941504
2) We will provide outreach and offer available services to campers.
3) We cannot - and will not - require people experiencing unsheltered homelessness to permanently move without having an option for where they could go.
4) The health department will only dispose of items that have been abandoned or are determined to pose a health risk
5) Campers will not be cited for being homeless as part of cleanups
Homelessness is not a crime, but some camps can and do present serious health and safety risks to those living in them and the public at large. Public spaces are for everyone.
It is the health department's legal obligation to maintain the public health and safety and our goal is to facilitate their abatements in our city in a way that keeps everyone healthy, safe, and most importantly, provides assistance and resources to our unsheltered residents.
