1. I watched the movie "beautiful boy" yesterday night. Released in 2018 and based on the book "Beautiful boy" by David Sheff and "Tweak" by Nic Sheff. The movie takes us through the life of a brilliant boy who had all the opportunities of life given to him on a platter of gold.
2. Great parents (especially his dad who was willing to give him everything he needed to succeed), a good mom and a fantastic stepmom. Life couldn't be better, could it?
He applied to 6 schools for college and got into all 6. A wrong turn and he got into a life of drugs and
3. everything came crashing. Oh, his family tried almost to the point of losing themselves just to bring him out of the rut he had created for himself. Till the family finally reached their breaking point. Kept helping until they were all far spent.

The movie takes us to the..
4. the part where the father finally gives up on him when he realized that it was going to be a vicious unending cycle. He ODs in the penultimate scene after he had called his dad to help him and this time, he refused and told him he had to do it on his own.
5. The final scene shows his father in the hospital with him helping him and the boy breaks down in tears at how much of a mess he had made of his life. The writeup after that last scene talks about how he had been sober for 8 years with the help of family and friends.

You just have to trust that you have instilled enough in them to bring them back on track. Finally, when it comes to drugs and mental illness, except an individual gains
8. insight into his own state...it is very hard to cure them of the ailment. As for drugs, just don't start it because it becomes so hard to break the cycle.

Ask psychiatrists and they'll tell you it is one of the toughest mental illnesses to manage - drug addiction.
9. It highlighted the fact that some people who have been given everything they need to succeed in life take it for granted and lose their way, but as long as there's still breath, there's always a room for second chances.

There are some opportunities that never come up again..
10. though, and you have to live with the consequences of your actions/inactions when it comes to your life.

Parenting...phew! One of the toughest self-imposed jobs. May our trials not come through parenting especially for those struggling to do right by their children.
11. It can be really disheartening.

This poem here by Kahlil Gibran summarizes what I'm saying about raising children
