Thread - night train rolling stock
Days with night train news are always days where people say "but we are lacking rolling stock". And we are.
So if Flix can refurbish old DB-carriages, why can't others? Below, I stitched together a small proposal... 1/8
Where do we start... we need a 200 km/h wagon that can run in most of Europe (RIC). Ideally with compartments to minimise refurbishment costs. And, sorry #FensterAuf lovers, we need a carriage with A/C. 2/8
When we browse what's available, we bump into this beauty: Avmz 109, a first-class, 9-compartment DB carriage that used to run in IC, EC and even CNL trains - this carriage ran through HU, SK, CZ, PL, A, CH, L, NL, DK, F... 3/8
The rest is in the first image... throw out the seats, put in couchettes. Maybe pull in a new ceiling in the corridor to have more luggage space in compartments. Bonus: refurbish one compartment into a service area and resize the washrooms. 4/8
Yes, lots of ifs and buts and maybes. Railway Twitter will be horrible and tell me why all of this is not possible. But in the end, we have all seen the timescales of the plans published today. Three years and more. And those carriages are literally already ordered. 5/8
We heard at the Copenhagen summit that not everybody is willing (or indeed capable) to invest into new shiny rolling stock. So if we are serious about the future of night trains, we need to start refurbishment projects. And we shouldn't stop with an Avmz109. 6/8
These so-called Eurofima carriages are being replaced (and sold?) throughout Europe. The first TGV units are next. Countries like F, CH are ditching their entire intercity stock for EMUs. Railway Undertakings need to save these wagons - if technically feasible - from scrap. 7/8

PS: I am also in search of a job in the field of mobility & especially railways. >5y experience with DB in D, UK, F, RO, PL, degrees in Mechatronics and Innovation Management, geeky at times and in search of positive future visions. DMs open. 8/8
PPS: The wagon drawing is cropped from a pdf that was made publicly available by DB, current source is the excellent @MarcusGrahnert on his http://fernbahn.de  wagon composition page.
