1. My (maybe uncomfortable) views on #Moria and forthcoming #EU #migration pact:

https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✔️" title="Fettes Häkchen" aria-label="Emoji: Fettes Häkchen">Yes, early signs that #EU pact will focus on keeping people in their countries is worrying.

But.....
2. ...we just cannot keep asking the #EU to do better. Because the #EU can only do what its 27 members states agree to do. And too many of them have interest to keep the anti #immigration rhetoric going primarily for domestic short term political calculations. Same is true in #US
3. To me the question we should ask and work for is:

Is there the political space and will to form a smaller & #39;coalition of the willing& #39; amongst selected European states/orgs to cooperate on #migration in ways that can work/deliver for domestic audiences?
We know it is possible.
4. So in other words: what is the alternative to #Germany and others to act unilaterally pledging to & #39;welcome& #39; some #refugees and other #migrants?

What are the incentives for Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK dare I say, and others to join forces in pragmatic alliances?
5. And this is the sort of actions for a pragmatic alliance.

How much more powerful and effective would this be if Germany, France, Italy, Spain Portugal and Italy agree to give foreign workers right to stay and allow them to move freely across borders? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/sep/15/foreign-covid-workers-in-france-to-be-fast-tracked-for-nationality">https://www.theguardian.com/world/202...
