we are in the middle of an environmental crisis. here’s what you need to know.
very recently this ice sheet broke essentially in half due to rising temperatures across the globe. melting ice sheets could add up to 16 inches of extra water to the seas. moreover ice accounts for 68% of he global fresh water supply, something that is already a crisis.
hundreds of fires have broke out across the globe, including in the U.S, South America (especially in the Amazon), South/Central Africa, Asia and Australia. this is due to the high temperatures and dry climate. this can also be attributed to lower levels of rainfall.
In addition, increased ocean temperatures dramatically increase the extreme weather globally, such as the many hurricanes the West Coast of the U.S has experienced recently.
1. The Amazon Rainforest, home to 10% of Earths known species is already down 20% due to deforestation. It is 2.59 million miles squared, over 10x the size of France and it is being cleared at a rate of one football pitch every minute.
2. The amazon is home to 35 million people who rely on it to survive. the main reasons for deforestation are cattle farming and to grow oil palms for palm oil. 90-140 billion tons of c02 are stored in the plants, 18-28x the amount the U.S produces annually.
this is only a small fraction of very recent events due to climate change. we are in the middle of a catastrophic clime crisis and it is nearly to the point where it is irreversible. here is what you can do to help⬇️
