But let's be honest: this ceremony is happening today at the White House because the UAE stepped in to prevent the impending disaster of annexation encouraged and put into play by the amateurish Trump Plan released in January. 2/4

Today’s ceremony marks the culmination of four years of an over politicized approach towards the Middle East that entirely subordinates the conduct of US foreign policy with the domestic political interests of the incumbent president. 3/4

As such, today is less a signing ceremony or even a foreign policy event, and much more the campaign deal of the century, with foreign powers playing a supporting role to the ego and vanity of one man seeking reelection in less than 50 days. 4/4
