My sister, while in a long term care home that my parents could have easily afforded, got a monthly govt disability cheque which went entirely to said care home.

Their reasoning was that they'd paid their taxes and this was the intended use of those taxes.

My reasoning was that families should be means tested and be required to take care of their own if they were able

Apparently that makes me a really horrible person. 🤷🏻‍♂️
But I'd be damned if my child needed care or support (no matter the reason - health, bad behaviour, addiction, whatever) and I could afford it and instead left it to the state because "that's what the state is for".

This is NOT in support of Kenney arbitrarily removing people from programs!

It's about personal responsibility inside of liberal democracies and how we balance that.
