Happy Engineers Day! Today, we want to talk about M Visvesaraya, the man after whom this day is celebrated. He was one of the most celebrated engineers in India and was also the Diwan of Mysore.

His projects for irrigation and flood control earned him praise not only in India
but also in Aden in Yemen where he went to learn these techniques. He built the KS Dam in Mysore, the dam you cross to reach the Brindavan Gardens. He was also instrumental in designing a flood control system for Hyderabad.

However, he was most known for transforming Mysore
When he was Diwan of Mysore, he took up several public works projects, started the Mysore Soap Factory, Mysore Iron and Steel Factory, several educational institutions and chambers.

His dedication to his profession made him an engineer worth remembering.
As students of engineering, it would be worthwhile to remember how one common man changed so much because of his dedication. It's time the profession focuses on eliminating problems in the country.

To the rest of us, we should acknowledge engineers and the role they play.
What made Visvesaraya so good at what he did was his interest in the subject and continued learning. Even after taking retirement, he still learned from projects in other countries.

These are qualities worth emulating for all of us.
Also, an urgent appeal to parents. Engineering is a respected profession. But it is not the ONLY respected profession. Visvesaraya excelled because he loved his work. Engineers dropout because they don't love their work. Times and careers have changed. Let us change too.
Correcting my typo, the correct spelling is M Visvesvaraya 😞
