The @nasw sending out an email asking for us as social work practitioners & professionals to pay them $49-150 so we can learn how to better collaborate with police has me sitting with a lot of feelings that I will not put on Twitter bc I don't want my account to get suspended....
An email I would like to get instead is a series of listening sessions and roundtables re: the concerns and critiques about their position on policing from their own members.
Social workers are not a monolith. The biggest (and most hostile) opposition I've gotten on my own stance re: divestment and defunding has been from my own social work colleagues. I wish the @nasw would use their positionality to foster dialogue around this in social work spaces.
Instead, the @nasw has doubled down on their stance re: policing like they DO speak for all of US and continues to ignore questions and critiques. I will not be giving you my money for THIS.
