People usually ask those who are already working in the industry, how did they get in the industry.

Here’s How you can Start building Your BRAND as a Sports Professional

A mini Threat :
For me personally, just because you love Football or any other sporting code, or just because your parents are Sport fans or you grew up going to the Soweto derby doesn’t mean that you’ll get a job working in sports.
It doesn’t work like that actually, unless, arg nvm.
Instead, you have to bring something to the table. You have to have some type of value or knowledge that makes you deserving of even being considered for a position working in sports.

On top of having some type of knowledge, what you also have to do is build your personal brand
As you might already know, I write a lot about branding with athletes and why I think it is so important. This thread reinforces those points and shows why branding is important no matter what you do. If you want a job working in sports, you have to be able to separate yourself
from the competition & that includes having a compelling brand that differentiates you.

It’s important to build a personal brand because its what will differentiate you from the rest . Your reputation online and in the business world is pretty much the game.
This are a few ways i think you can follow to Start Building Your Brand As A Sports Professional.

1. Define & Tell Your Story

Everyone has a story! Tell yours! Even if you think you don’t have anything share your journey and the obstacles that you’ve overcome especially if you played sports at one point in time. Your story matters a lot more than you think it does.
2. Pick One Platform And Master It

Don’t be a jack of all trades. Master one maybe two social platforms& go all in! People consume information through social media nowadays and that’s how you’ll get people to know about you. Don’t try to do it all on every platform though
you’ll spread yourself too thin. Pick one and do your best to push out your story and what you know about sports on that platform. I& #39;d recommend twitter and LinkedIn.
3. Create Consistent Content

Content is king in today’s world, but you have to be consistent. You have to always be distributing information & sharing the knowledge that you already have pertaining to the sports position you want.
Offer to create content for different publications and outlets. Consistently put out your message and story. Have a purpose behind your content. All of this matters long term for your career.
4. Engage, Engage & Engage More

Constantly collaborate with others & reach out to people in the sports industry. This is huge. It all goes back to the saying “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” People will help you if they like you. Simple as that.
You have to always be looking to meet others and ultimately provide value to your relationships. Give more than you take and you will see how much your brand benefits from it.
5. Remember that real Brands are built Offline

Attend sports conferences, and network offline even if you’re nervous. In the sports world, you have to be seen to get ahead. Go to games and offer to freelance or cover different events for free depending on what you want to do.
This will not only build up your reputation, but it will allow people to see your face and give you a ton of experience going forward.Your Brand Is the Most Important thing you have. The sports world is everchanging.
Nothing in any industry stays the same. There is always something happening whether it be new advancements or new technology that you have to adapt to. You will have to gain new skills, meet new people & constantly grow throughout your career.
But the one thing that won’t change is your brand. If you want to separate yourself and build on your career working in sports, it takes having a successful brand and reputation.
People help people they like or people they think will add value to their team.
