Under the radar MB move:

At 2019 draft, MTL had a 4th rounder (pick #108) but nobody they wanted at that rank. They had gotten pick #126 from LA and that was fine for them.

So MB picks up his papers and decides to look for a team who wants to swap 4th rounders.

SJ was one of those teams. Sharks had their own 4th rounder. Probably thought they'd finish high. So MB makes the deal, swaps MTL's 4th in 2019 (#108) for SJ 4th in 2020 that ends up being #96.

Then Bergevin used that SJ 2020 4th rounder to get Scandella.

MB flipped Scandella to STL at the deadline for a 2nd rounder in 2020 (#57) + a conditional 4th in 2021 if Scandella re-signs with STL. Which he did.

So just like that, Bergevin turned pick #108 in 2019 -- where he didn't see anyone worth drafting -- into pick #57 in 2020 (great draft year, lot of options) PLUS a pick between #97 & 128 in 2021.

That's not just good assets management. That's assets creation.
