Ads are bad. Here's why.

1. The value of live content happens live. A viewer can't get back those shared moments they lose by going back & watching a vod. They miss the experience forever.

Example: https://twitter.com/OtzdarvaYT/status/1305688585316728833?s=19
2. Twitch makes an unreal amount of money from ads. There is a reason they don't run like FB or IG ads where anyone plays. They negotiate MASSIVE deals and give 2 cents to streamers.

This is not about empowering creators. Its misdirection to make you finally choose to run ads.
3. Businesses making more money is a GREAT thing! But this is done at the expense of the viewer experience - Twitchs main product. And it isn't just their product. Its yours. Your boss just made your job shittier and isn't even paying you for it. You have a right to be mad.
4. Creators should make more from ads period. Twitch takes an incredible amount of money from your biz already. You negotiated a company taking 50% of yours without knowing it.

Now that split is decreased even lower. They make 99.9999% of ad rev from your biz. You get 2 cents.
5. Ads can be in direct conflict with your values. KFC ad on a vegan stream? Mountain Dew ad during a sponsored stream? Hate a company? Too bad.

Streamers should be able to customize which ads play and align ads with their values & biz. https://twitter.com/BikeMan/status/1305790214095474690?s=19
6. You can't opt out. This business decision was made for you. The experience it creates and % revenue you gain are in your boss' control and you have no choice.

Creator independence should be protected. You should be able to run your biz how YOU deem worthy. Not a big corp.
There are other companies being built right now that will give higher splits of 90%+ to their creators. Fair creator monetization is a problem many many entrepreneurs are trying to solve right now. It isnt a matter of *if* Twitch will have to become more comp. Its *when*.
Obviously ads are a work in progress. They need to make changes and will. But consider why the first rollouts are in Twitchs favor and not yours.

Why aren't they serving ads in ways creators will be comfortable with FIRST?
Speaking out against Twitch is hard because any criticisms can ruin future partnerships or relationships.

But I believe people should be allowed to speak out when something directly affects their livelihood.

You are allowed to be mad or think more strategically about your biz.
