More Unpopular Opinion Time:

Cancellation doesn't exist. Consequences do. Everyone has lines on what they can and won't forgive.

But people CAN learn. And more than that, "cancellation" only affects non-White folks, and they deserve just as many chances to prove themselves.
This is esp. true of Black women.

Ex. Cardi B--made transphobic comments. Addressed why. Actively DEFENDED a black trans child. Still gets flack for it.

Ex. Doja Cat--trolled some racist forums when she was younger, said some homophobic shit. Still suffering from bullshit.
Another ex.: Lizzo. Music got used in a Weight Watchers thing. She made a mistake, STILL getting railed for it.

These are ALL fueled in part by further racism and sexism that po puts Black folks under more scrutiny.
On the other end.

Henry Cavill--said sexist shit about the Me Too movement. Everyone still drooling over him.

J*: Actively still racist and manipulative. People still using his cosmetics and supporting him.
We need to give folks, esp. Black women and Black queer folks, the same opportunities to grow as white men.

More than that, while no one owes forgiveness, and no one owes anyone kindness for the cruelties they've done or said, we need to give the same critical eye to growth
If someone apologizes for something, we need to be critical of it. We need to examine it for truth. We also need to pay attention to their future actions and figure out if they have actually learned.

If they have--we need to take that into account.
That said--everyone has lines, and no one owes anyone forgiveness, again.

For example: Racism. It is not your place if you are non-Black to forgive a racist. Jeffree Star? More than proven he will never fucking learn.
CW for the next tweet: R*pist is brought up
On the other hand--we have people like R.Kelly--rapist, sex trafficker, and kidnapper. He happens to be Black. Should he be given a chance to grow?

FUCK NO. Hard line.
All in all--Consequences SHOULD exist for these things. But y'all need to recognize it doesn't affect folks equally, and that people can learn just as often as they can refuse to.

We need to be willing to see both.
