THREAD
1/ How do you spot an apologist for the Iranian regime?
These ppl have been welcomed in America, yet when faced with this intelligence report of a planned attack, their first instinct is to mock the US ambassador (a ditzy "handbag designer") & promote the IRI's narrative.
2/ This woman is British-Iranian and presumably lives in Europe, but much like the others her first instinct is to mock the American official and assume Iran's regime is blameless.
3/ Americans too managed to get in on this talking point.
4/ This is of course the Iranian regime's talking point. Here's Mohammad Marandi, an IRI insider and a de facto spokesperson for the Iranian regime in Western media, saying exactly the same thing as Parsi, Karami, Dagres, Geranmayeh, Slavin, et al.
5/ I mean, you literally can't tell the regime apologists' talking points apart from the Iranian regime insiders' talking points. It's as if they're all reading from the same script.
6/ I should emphasize that we don't know enough about this story yet. The threat may have been less serious than described (though it's entirely consistent with past IRI practice).

My point is about the #IranLobby's immediate default to siding with the IRI.
7/ A final aside: I don't know much about Lana Marks, the US ambassador to S. Africa. No idea if she's qualified though I note that giving ambassadorial posts to friends and donors is a bipartisan tradition in America....
8/... But Marks has created a successful company with $8m in annual revenue and several dozen employees. That's a businessperson and an entrepreneur not a "handbag designer". If a man had built a steel mill with those financials, would these people be mocking him this way?
