How I reached 3,000+ followers in just 7 weeks on money Twitter

First off, I do NOT claim to be a Twitter growth expert, I’ll leave that up to @CMillerTalks

But I do feel like I have some solid information that could help YOU grow your account!

With that being said, it will take WORK

But with great work, can come great rewards

NOTE: There are many niches on Twitter, and this thread will be focused on Money accounts

However, I believe the lessons can be relevant to any niche on Twitter!

The biggest thing on Twitter is...

VALUE

Your tweets/comments/replies must be providing VALUE

If you don’t provide value, people won’t want to follow you

Think of it like this:

You buy products that provide VALUE to you...

SO

For someone to follow you, 99% of the time, it will be because you provided value to their feed!

Essentially, you are “selling” your profile to the “buyer” (potential follower)

When it comes to providing VALUE, there are 4 avenues to do so

1. Tweeting
2. Quoted Tweet (QT)
3. Replies
4. Retweets

Using all 4 of these, you extend your ability to provide VALUE which = growth!

1. The coveted Tweet

This is where YOU get to voice your opinions

This is where YOU get to be the “seller” of your page

This is where YOU get to put out your content!

For me, I come up with my tweets a few different ways

They can come from my personal reading and studies!

They can come from my personal life and personal portfolio that I share!

OR

They are things that I wish I had heard when I started investing!

To be honest, you will have tweets that you think up and believe they will do really well

And they might be a flop

BUT

You must keep tweeting... you must keep refining your tweets

Find out what works best for you and gets a good response, and keep doing that!

Also, it doesn’t matter how many followers you have, it is imperative to tweet your own content

I was in your spot.. less than 100 followers, getting ZERO engagement on my tweets

HOWEVER

You still must be putting out your own content... “sell” your page to potential followers!

The rule here is this:

DO NOT COPY OTHERS TWEETS

If you do, Money Twitter will call you out

AND

@EDGcoach will make a video on you explaining how to come up with original content

2. Quoted Tweet (QT)

Say you are scrolling down your feed and you see a post by @HeroDividend or @DivBabySteps

You want your followers to see but you want to add more VALUE

You can do a QT so not only do your followers see what you said, they see what the author said!

The QT serves two purposes

1. Ability to provide VALUE to a great post

But more importantly,

2. The possibility of a RT from that account

If you provide enough VALUE and the original author likes it, they may repost it

This means more eyes on your account!

3. Replies

This is where I put in A TON of work early on

Nearly every post I saw on my feed I was replying too

But it wasn’t a “Nice!” or a “”

It was another opportunity to provide VALUE

This can lead to more eyes on your account, as it is under the main post!

Replies can lead to a conversation with the author, which means more eyes

OR

It, too, can be reposted by the author, which can lead more eyes

4. The Retweet (RT)

Do not sleep on retweets

Yes, they don’t necessarily get the eyes on your account that you are looking for

BUT

You can’t forget your current followers, so if the post is VALUABLE, give it a RT... your followers will thank you!

Always provide VALUE

Now I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again

I’m not sure if I was the pioneer on this (probably not!)

But here is how I am quick to reply on big accounts in my niche...

I turn on their alerts so I am notified when they tweet

Always looking to provide VALUE

If their post is relevant to my audience, I can either

1. Quote
2. Reply
3. Retweet

W/ VALUE

If you are one of the first accounts to engage, then you have a better chance of being seen by the big account

Which means, possible RT or reply from them

Which means more

Some of the big money accounts I focus on are:

@thewealthdad
@DivCultivator
@CalebGregory304
@DecadeInvestor

(okay, not the last one! lol)

So we covered the tweets, but what about when someone clicks your profile?

Remember, you are essentially “selling” your profile to the potential follower

SO

Make sure your profile reflects a good “product”

I’ve seen both anonymous and actual photos do well for pictures

So I can’t say which is best

I’ve been a picture of me since like less than 500 followers, but I have also seen money accounts do well with anonymous pictures too!

Your header:

It’s imperative to have a good looking header... I have to thank @GrowthGrounds for helping me there early on!

Make sure your header is a quick glance on what the potential follower can expect to see when they follow you!

Notice how mine says:

“Investing with a long term mindset in a short term world”

Everyone knows exactly what they are getting

An account that talks about long term investing

The Bio:

Your bio is your elevator pitch

The potential follower looks at your header, is intrigued, so they will read your bio

This is where you “sell” your page to them

Tell them in a concise, yet informative way what to expect

Let’s do a breakdown of mine!

My first line “All things long term investing”

If someone is a long term investor, or is interested in investing, this captures their attention

Then I repeat my header line... I want to keep that message fresh in their mind

To be honest, I struggled with putting my age

However, after a great conversation with @chadaunderwood, we came to the conclusion that my mission is mainly to help others my age understand the importance of investing young

So I decided to keep “22”

That definitely could turn people away

They could think “What does a 22 year old know about investing”

And to be honest, not everyone will follow you anyways

So once your find your mission with your account, make sure it’s known!

Then, I put my dividend portfolio value

It was important for me, because I’ve seen a lot of people get anxious about investing because they only see people with $100,000+ in their accounts

I wanted to relate to them and show that I am building a new portfolio, just like them!

This could turn people away too..

“What does a person with only $9,000 in their account now about investing?”

Again, that isn’t the full picture on my NW, but if they are worried about that, then I wouldn’t want them to follow me anyways

And lastly, I put “follow me on my journey ”

This is a CTA (call to action) for the potential follower to want to follow my journey!

Get them to hit that follow button!

So your bio is a place to briefly explain what the potential follower can expect when following you

It’s ok if your mission on Twitter turns people away from following you!

It is YOUR mission!

Just like my age and portfolio value, it may turn people away but it’s my MISSION!

As for that, the biggest thing is VALUE

I have said it a lot on this thread, make sure you are providing VALUE to your “customers”

And

Be yourself!

At first, I didn’t tweet much outside of money and investing

But...

Recently I’ve opened up more

Talked about my plans outside of investing in stocks (real estate)

Had Mama DI do a thread

And have fun!

So remember, be YOURSELF!

I know this is a long thread, and there is still more to go!

The DM

It really does go down in the DMs

Don’t be afraid to connect with other accounts

Ask them for tips

Ask them questions

Heck, I talked with @DivCultivator yesterday about learning to code

I love meeting new people! So reach out to us in the DM!

Another help in my growth was engagement groups

Connecting with a group of accounts, and working together to help each other grow!

Don’t be afraid to reach out to similar sized groups and interact with each other’s posts!

This means more eyes

Okay, I think it’s time to close this down

I know this thread is about followers

BUT

Don’t stress about growing

If your are here to have a lot of followers, you’ll burn out quickly

I came here to help spread the goodness of investing, the follower count doesn’t matter

So if you are growing slow, don’t sweat it

Just keep working on proving VALUE to your current followers

Engaging, replying, connecting in the DMs

The rest will fall into place

Remember why you started your account in the first place

This took me nearly an hour to write, but that’s what I do for my followers!
