Some properly creative planning yesterday for church Christmas without a big carol service. Some reflections:
Christmas isn’t cancelled, and it won’t feel like it. For many shops Christmas will be make or break. We will be looking for some respite from commercialism.
The online/physical hybrid model of church creates new possibilities for storytelling and experience. The physical building can signpost to online community, even in lockdown.
The story of God become a baby never gets old. Without a big carol service event how can churches bring new creativity, festive wonder and spiritual discovery into the streets, into homes, online?
By the end of the year we’ll all be fatigued, many will be unemployed, many more will be lockdown lonely. We’ll need to make an extra effort to look up and out this Christmas to bring comfort and joy.
By the time we get to Betwixtmas, between Christmas and New Year, sources of hope will help us start 2021 well - and the church can provide this. It’s not too early to look towards this.
What could be your community/church Christmas plans this year?

(and yes, I know it’s horribly early to ask - feel free to ignore for a few months...)
