even though today represents solely about how we gained independence from Spain.. I think it’s important to acknowledge that black and indigenous Central Americans get treated like shit everyday and are still fighting for their own real independence and recognition.
I’ve seen some say that celebrating today is “embarrassing”. I don’t believe it’s embarrassing. it’s a huge milestone in hispanic/latino/ Central American history. I think today can be celebrated and still recognize how black and indigenous Central Americans are badly treated.
Black and indigenous Central Americans are Central Americans. Also, they’re the backbone of central american culture & everything in between. Even if they weren’t a big role in our culture, they are still our people. They literally deserve the bare minimum which is human decency
It does not make sense to love being Central American and not accept every part of it. Black and indigenous Central Americans truly deserve so much more. So much left to do for our people <3
