why you should read carrds before you follow someone — an important thread
1. before you follow: byf’s usually include someone’s triggers, what the person tweets about, what they don’t want on their page, etc. for example, someone may tweet nsfw content that may trigger others, so they put it in their byf so people+
with an nsfw trigger do not follow.
2. don’t follow if/do not follow: dfi/dnf’s includes what things the person DOES NOT WANT on their page. the basic dfi criteria includes homophobic, transphobic, racism, etc. but most people have other things on their dfi, such as an age limit. for example, maybe someone doesn’t+
want people below 14 years old because it makes them uncomfortable. if you realize your following someone and you fit their dfi, you can either soft block them, or you can ask them whether or not you are still allowed to follow.
3. about the person: people have information about themselves so you know who you are following. this can help with whether or not you wanna follow this person. for instance, let’s say someone is 20 years old, and since you feel uncomfortable with 20 year olds, you don’t follow
^^ also, some people put their likes and dislikes on their carrd too!! it may not decide whether u follow them or not, but knowing about the person before u interact would be nice and maybe even easier for you to interact with them!!
4. time spent on the carrd: this is also very important!! many people spend hours making a carrd, and it would be greatly appreciated by most people if you read them. if you don’t read them, it will feel like a waste of time to the person who has made the carrd.
all in all, please take some time out of your day to read someone’s carrd before you follow!! it’s not that hard, it will only take u like a minute or two to do so. hope this thread has helped u learn why you should read people’s carrds!! <33
