A question for late antique philosophy knowers: the statement "for it is the nature of the divine essence neither to pass to things outside itself nor to take any external thing to itself" would be taken to deny the possibility of the Incarnation, right?
Boethius has Lady Philosophy make this claim in III Prose 12 of the Consolation, but it's apparently not one of the passages discussed by people who engage with the question about the Christianity or lack thereof of the Consolation.
Hmm okay increasingly thinking that this is a question about what is predicated of the divine essence vs to the divine person, turns out that the folks who have spent their lives studying Boethius probably have this one right over the MDiv reading an English translation ;)
