Just a thread on my thoughts regarding written fangans and their treatment, inspired by this tweet from @fanganhub (WHICH, I MIGHT ADD, IS AN AMAZING TWITTER FOR AN AMAZING DISCORD SERVER)
Written fangans are slept on to an insane degree.
No one reads them. No one wants to make them. No one wants to promote them.
Why is this?
1) The fangan community really has a huge issue with "hitting it big" and getting instant notoriety like Kill/Cure did.
To which, I will say, absolutely sucks ass. I could make an entire THREAD about why this is an issue in the community. It& #39;s a horrible mindset.
2) Nobody wants to promote written works because they& #39;re "too easy" because "anyone can just make a cast and a death order."
This one& #39;s absolute BULLSHIT. PROPERLY DEVELOPING a cast can take months. Writing the actual work can also take YEARS.
Fatal Sunshine Cruise was released on May 16, 2019. It& #39;s on its second chapter as of Sept 14, 2020.
Fractured Fates was released on July 12, 2018. It& #39;s only recently finished, with its latest update being July 5, 2020.
Crimson Clockwork released the first part of its prologue on Dec 15, 2019. As of Sept 14, 2020; it has finished the first chapter.
Dreadnought Despair initially released in Nov 3, 2016 and as of now is going through a revamp on a new website.
I can go on.
Written, playable or watchable, written fangans take TIME to make. If someone is truly serious about their work and how it is written, they will put the time and effort into making it.
I find that people ignore the fact that-- no matter the medium-- you are still going to be WRITING A STORY. Just because your project is playable doesn& #39;t mean you aren& #39;t going to write. So what& #39;s so bad about written fangans you can& #39;t play or watch? The writing is still there.
3) "Text hurty my eyes I can& #39;t read"
This one is... Kinda excusable? I get it, middle school and high school made us hate reading. I, for one, would gladly dropkick Shakespeare into the dirt if I were given the chance.
HOWEVER, many written fangans have imagery in order for people to properly visualize the characters and how they speak. Some changes in dialogue and formatting are even made to make the experience easier. Here are some examples!
And (coldest take incoming)
This one& #39;s gonna sound really rude of me but if a fangan isn& #39;t in a format you like, don& #39;t go "Oh I& #39;d love to read but words hurt" because it may come across to others as "I won& #39;t actually put in the effort to consume the content you worked so hard on"
BUT ANYWAY
In reality, I believe a written fangan is probably one of the most efficient and beginner-friendly mediums one can choose-- while still having the potential to weave interesting narratives and rich characters.
Yes, it may be "easier" to create. Yes, a written fangan is the best option to take if you are not used to handling large projects.
But that doesn& #39;t mean it should be left out of the "Cool Kids Club" consisting of video series and games.
TLDR: Read Danganronpa Fatal Sunshine Cruise by churchcore on AO3, here& #39;s the link in fact please I beg of y--
