I will be here until 8am tomorrow as the old airport shuts down and the new one opens overnight! I’ll tweet updates on this thread.

Terminal 1 is winding down, workers are taking the signs down for @FlyFrontier @AlaskaAir @SouthwestAir and @TSA has started moving their equipment out!

Talk about getting here early for your flight, my new friend Margo is flying to Indiana in the morning. Terminal 1 was built in 1981, it is pretty much game over at this point. There’s one more flight in a few hours so we are now heading over to Terminal 2, which houses @Delta . There are a ton of movers here! #TheNewSLC @KUTV2News

. @Delta still has like 25 more flights tonight so terminal 2 seems to be business as usual. Last flight out is at 11:30 to #ATL and the first flight out of the new airport is at 6am also to Atlanta. Do you think they would give me this sign if I asked? #TheNewSLC @KUTV2News

Several passengers I talked to said they thought it was just a new terminal opening, not an entirely new airport. Nope, come midnight, lock the doors to the old one and call the wrecking ball. Some of the existing gates will still be used for another month until the north concourse opens in October. After that, the old airport will be torn down to make way for future expansion. #TheNewSLC @KUTV2News
The current @slcairport has basically been added onto since the & #39;60s. It& #39;s like frankenstein and they just added bits on as needed. About 6 @Delta jets are parked at the new gates ready for morning flights!! We’ll be out here documenting the night’s activities - new airport opens at 4 am! We’ll be live on #2NEWSAM at 4:30! @KUTV2News
12:40 a.m. , the road crews have now started the process of re-aligning the roadways. They have about 3 hours to get their work done before people will start arriving for am flights! @KUTV2News #TheNewSLC @slcairport
