And—there is little hope Trump will hold to the tradition of ex-presidents exercising restraint in remarks about their successors. If deposed, Trump will act as president-in-exile, delivering increasingly unhinged conspiracies to his increasingly credulous white supremacist army.

Trump will be the leader of the Republican Party no matter what happens, because nobody else can give white America the same perfect cocktail of shameless reality-free grievance-fueled spiteful malice, which has contempt for any shared society, which wants only dominance.
