I had an interesting day yesterday.

First, I went to church.

You remember church, don't you?

Why don't you go back?

The CA State Governor said I can't, so does the Mayor of Los Angeles. So what?

They can't arrest us all.
I thought then I'd drive to Vegas for Trumps Rally to get to experience one in person since the chance of one happening here in CA are slim to none and slim left town.

But that's a 4 hour drive through the desert in the hottest part of the day...
So I nixed that and decided to drive to Ventura Blvd to see if I could see any damage from the recent 'Peaceful Protests'.

There is some.

There's also a TON of vacant businesses.

Silly me, I didn't take pictures.
But, I decided to get a little scenic drive in because I wanted to go to Santa Monica to see how my second home town (since I worked there for over a decade straight in my 20's) fared in its round of 'Peaceful Protests'.

I took Ventura Bl west to Topanga Canyon Bl.
I'd heard about the Trump Caravans a couple weeks earlier, and lo and behold, I ran into one.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic or video of the unhinged 'melanated' poc who appeared to be presenting as a female, but there I go gender-stereotyping someone who slammed their car in park in the median and got out screaming and flipping Trump supporters off.
So I eventually got to Topanga and except for the slow motorcycle with the gf on the back taking selfies as they drove the winding road down over the hills and down to the ocean it was a nice ride to clear my head for what I was about to see.
Santa Monica is one of the more wealthy areas in Southern California, and one of the most left-wing places in the country. SDS Radical and over all loser and mean person Tom Hayden used to represent the area in Congress.

The homeless problem has been bad since the 80's.
The district is now Represented by Ted Lieu, so when the kids of the district grew up watching their parents vote for Hayden they didn't learn any discernment, at least Hayden didn't sound like an idiot while attempting to show his self-perceived brilliance.
I called a friend who lives there when the 'Peaceful Protests' got out of hand and the looting started. She was shocked, and a little scared.

A few days later she said how 'beautiful' it was as the community 'pulled together' to sweep up the broken glass and trash.
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and while I remember that beautiful city I was shocked at what I saw.

Bear in mind that the 'Peaceful Protests' went off the rails 105 days before these pics were taken.
Now I admit I haven't been here for a while, but I used to hit this Liquor store virtually every day for a soda, water or beer after work (hey I worked at a stereo store on the next block) and it was huge. Now, it's fenced off and done.

Wilshire Blvd heading west.
That used to be a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf location with an outdoor fire pit, now, well it's waiting for it's next incarnation. Still Wilshire Bl.

This is not inexpensive real estate, and normally if one tenant wanted out another would be right there waiting to get in. 105 days
As I mentioned the homeless population has been an issue in SaMo since the 80's.

I'm not here to pick on them.

I will note that I've never been to a 7-11 anywhere that you had to buzz and get the attendant to let you in.
Now we'll start to see a theme. The local leftie hippies in some places decided to 'beautify' the boards they had to use to board up their businesses, because I guess that makes it all better.
We're talking about 105 days, over 3 months. There's not a plate glass shortage as far as I know, but with such overwhelming demand maybe you could understand some places being boarded up still, but folks of means live and own businesses here.
hmm, maybe they were looking for bread after all, won't find any now however.
I'll also grant that we're in the midst of a lockdown that has possibly destroyed some of these businesses as well, and/or there are some that may have been in the midst of a remodel, as I said I haven't been there for a while, close to a year or year and a half.
That entrance is papered over from the inside. The 'For Lease' sign is the first of many you'll see in this thread.
This one is papered over from the inside as well and a 'For Lease' banner hanging on the top corner.

This is Santa Monica Blvd.
I saw this business owner interviewed while the looting was going on. She was particularly poignant because she just couldn't understand why it was happening, none of us can.
Oh those systemically racist Adult Gifts...
How beautiful, someone painted 'Love' on the boarded up window.
Hmmm, after 105 days, maybe the Gap Kids ain't comin' back. I mean, as the BLM Chicago Rep told us, 'they have insurance', which is probably true. But do they have the desire to re-open?
