The trouble with positing e.g. "the cathedral" as an entity is that it produces hierarchical (conspiracy-esque) thought, when really the production of truth, knowledge, etc. happens as decentralized flows or processes following certain core dynamics.
Taking a distributed stance on truth and knowledge production is even more important as our communicative culture trends more and more away from looking like the left and toward looking like the right (h/t @tobyshorin for diagrams).
When thinking in a distributed manner, one might feel beset by the question "how do we know who to blame?"

That's good: it's easy to decry others' myopia when you believe yourself to have a complete picture, but much harder to accept that a complete picture may not even exist.
