I’ve had people arguing with me saying that I’m overreacting to Cuties and they don’t see any problems with the film. So here is a thread to explain why I am so angry, and hopefully by the end of it, you can understand.

Warning: it is upsetting.
1. When I was younger, I knew a man who turned out to be a predator. He was raping his own daughters. 4, 7, and 10 at the time. The girls told me and my sister. They trusted us. We told our mom right away. He ended up in prison.
2. When I watched Cuties, I could only imagine how many predators out there like that guy were easily watching the film. Those defending Cuties don’t seem to realize that predators, too, have easy access to Netflix. There are many scenes that go way way way too far. Sickening.
3. The story is about a girl rebelling against her family’s cultural traditions, getting wrapped up in our hypersexualized culture, then finding her way back. The character could have been older and the story would have been the same.
4. There was no reason for her to be ELEVEN except to push the envelope. Watch the film and you’ll understand. If your intention is to raise awareness about how society is sexualizing children, I don’t think sexualizing eleven year olds is the appropriate way to send the message.
5. If the film’s true intention WAS to spread awareness about society sexualizing children, then the backlash to the film was what they were striving for. So if you’re standing up for the film sexualizing eleven year olds, you’re actually part of the problem.
6. So, what I’ve learned over the past few days is... in 2020, apparently I’M the crazy monster for feeling sick while watching Cuties and feeling the need to take a stand to protect our children. Got it.
