For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ty’s mom. As the mother of a trans man I realize that this book is targeted at people like me, and I want to speak to the other parents of trans kids who might be questioning their children’s transition and what “caused” them to be trans.

It is NOT a choice! It is who they are. Your children are not the victims of malice or deception, but you may be. The parents of transgender children are victims of being fed false information regarding what is happening with their children.

A FULL understanding of what their children are experiencing is essential for parents to make an educated decision/choice to support their child in a way that can genuinely save their life.

If I would have known anything about it or had any education at all on it, I would have never made Ty live his life as a girl. It breaks my heart for him. I feel so responsible for not giving him the childhood he deserved as a little boy.

I don’t want to see other parents make the same mistake and have to live with the guilt that I have. I am thankful that Ty is a strong and incredible person and has forgiven me for this, but it can never give him back the childhood that I wish he could have had.

I am so incredibly proud of him and the man that he’s become, and I hope that this message will touch some other parents of trans kids and inspire you to do more research in order to understand that being transgender is NOT a choice.

Fighting your child’s transition will only hurt them and their relationship with you. Please educate yourself. Be an advocate for your child and yourself. Make the difference in their life to help them be all they are meant to be. They deserve it!
