I don't think the rest of the nation fully grasps what's happening on the west coast. Not only are we still under relatively strict COVID-19 protocol, including school closures, but also that we literally cannot go outside because of the poor air quality.
The residents of three huge, populated states are actually trapped in our homes (if we're lucky enough to have them).
I know that the beltway and New York always have their own things to focus on but the economic implications of three states being even more fully shut down — restaurants who were relying on outdoor dining are closed right now etc — are massive.
WA, OR, & CA form a powerhouse in shipping & receiving, agricultural product (Google "smoke taint" if you want to know how this will impact your meal prepping), & alternative power sources.

This will impact everyone. And it is directly related to our inaction on climate change.
To think: We put so. Much. At stake. Just because corporations and billionaires convinced lawmakers that somehow climate action would be BAD for business, would KILL JOBS.

Well! **waves at everything** Here we are! A bunch of inaction later and the jobs aren't exactly popping!
The next time you hear a Republican lawmaker or an oil & gas exec say that any kind of climate action or regulation would be bad for your local economy, you go ahed and gesture over to the whole-ass West Coast, where our crops are going to wilt and everything is closed.
You know what "kills jobs?"

Motherfucking climate change.
