Introspection to lube up my slow and painful design process:
Why do I feel SO BAD ordering all the supplies and mechanisms and props for the escape room I'm supposed to get finished pretty quickly? They were all greenlit by boss when I gave him the blueprints and budget
Answer:
I'm taking the role of teenager Marras living at my parents' house. If I ever wanted supplies for art/craft/DIY/design projects, I was steered towards scavenging and making do with what I could repurpose or get for free or buy on discount
Buying specific things that COULD easily be switched to some other product or material was always against the unwritten rules. Wait until you get a good deal. Wait for an opportunity and only then strike. Only idiots buy full price, there's so much air in the pricing.
Smart resourceful people don't get tricked and spend their money buying cloth and lumber when any day now a relative might be throwing out old curtains or you spot a skip with perfectly good building materials. Just keep your eyes open and be SUPER CLEVER about it.
It's more creative! Limitations create more imaginative solutions! Easy basic materials anyone could get for MONEY are for basic bitches who can't imagine what to do with a broken lamp and wild flowers and expired makeup.
Cool cool. But wrong, in this situation. Here I'm on a time limit and being paid for my time, and my boss will not pay for me to scavenge bins and charity shops. We're not being creative for the sake of creativity; I'm hired to solve a problem and do it fast and well.
I will not be applauded for spending 10h with a 30€/h rate to make something out of garbage when it would cost 100€ to buy. Or for finding a use for the weird bits and bobs my mom and dad have already scavenged over the years and dare not toss unused. Just BUY IT.
*bravely finally does the shopping baskets and inputs business card details and all the sites want confirmation from boss's personal phone app to go through* 😒
Well, in a powermove I have told my underling to do ALL SHIFTS on tuesday wednesday thursday so I can focus on design.
I promised to make??? a 60min video of an asteroid approaching and then crashing into the Earth. Wtf Marras, you haven't done 3D animation in 6 years
At moments like these I think "I could just steal a video from somewhere, absolutely no one goes around checking where escape rooms get their audio and video"
Goal setting: What are the most important things I need to do in the next three days?
💡Plan new keypad puzzle
🎛️Install keypad
🛠️Install clues
🚪Find a big closet
🧼Wash items
🎨Get paint chart and pick a grey
💥Make asteroid video
🖥️Make graphic design for clues
🖥️Buy new computer screen to not kill your eyes while making video and graphic design...
🧩Finish the sliding tile puzzle pieces
📄Prepare documents for bank
🛌Remember to rest too
Spiritual successor to my "damn bitch you live like this" threads: Object level work #1
Base coat done
Washed bits and bobs for the escape room. I might have told myself not to scavenge for props anymore, but these I already HAVE
