Flooding downriver is often a given when Kainji starts spilling water in big volumes.
So for those of us in the south it's time to prepare & ask more questions of @nemanigeria & @FMEnvng 2/
It can't be too good when the volume of water is attacking an embankment & you still need to keep spillovers open at full volume.
Again reason for those in Kogi, Anambra Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers State to take precautions & ask questions of authorities 3/
As for the dam safety office being positioned to take a hit when spillways are at full blast I am going to reserve comment - I come from a country that positioned our national capital right on top of an earthquake fault line 4/
It would be great to see more social media comms from @nemanigeria & Nigeria Hydrological Services (report on rivers) & for states to step up balanced messaging about how concerned (or not) we should be. In past years warnings have come TOO LATE.
