Pandemic working from home; a thread:
I work for @UAlberta. I've been at home since mid-march, with two kids aged 5 & 89. Because of the tremendous cuts by @jkenney, our team saw layoffs during the pandemic and our faculty is pivoting/reinventing in order to survive. /1

As I type this, I've been awake for 3 hours & haven't been able to do a single thing related to work. Kid 1 is noisily throwing his cars across the hardwood, my dog is covered in mud because Kid 2 let her out without my knowing, & breakfast is scattered across the table /2

B/C I work for a public institution, I didn't receive any support to work from home. I use my personal cell to take calls from students, I pay my own internet, I had to purchase Adobe and Excel. I use my personal laptop that was never meant for this type of work /3

I'm working from my kitchen table b/c I never had a home office set up, & I don't have spare cash/space to do it any differently. I constantly feel anxious about my output in work. I was SO excited for school to start. /4

(Just a sec, my kid is asking me to remove playdough from the wheels of his car while my phone rings with work inquiries) /5

I had 3 DAYS of silence & productivity last week when kids were in school. #abed Then, Kid 1 got a cold & we all got Covid tests. Now I am realizing that this school year will be a shit show of start/stop & many Covid tests for the many normal bugs kids get in a year. /6

I understand this has affected everyone's lives and I'm lucky in many ways (still have a job). But the lack of understanding and support from @jkenney @Alberta_UCP and their SHIT back to school plan is enraging. I so mad we are left to scramble with so much inconsistent info. /7

@AdrianaLaGrange You have kids. You should have known better. You know on a basic level that your "plan" gave no support to teachers and parents. We are not ok. We need MORE help. @shoffmanAB #ableg /8

I know that all the @jkenney truly cares about is the economy/money - but how shortsighted. Most of the workforce is parents. You want us back to work? SUPPORT OUR CHILDREN FOR GOD SAKES! THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE! #AbLeg /end

*Aged 5 & 9 lol. I do not have an 89 year old child.
