This tweet is yet another example of how blithely stupid & mosquito-brained this generation of “cricket fans” is...they know not the concept of logic or are aware of what Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman or Anil Kumble did (1/n) https://twitter.com/akakrcb6/status/1305509619238727680
To take Indian cricket forward from the 90s & especially the 2000s. From the pits of the outbreak of the match-fixing scandal, these men helped patch up the faith of the entire country in the game of cricket & made so many of us fall in love with this game...the challenges (2/n)
They faced in their playing career cannot be compared at any rate to that of any current cricketer...the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli & MSD grew up idolising Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid & the likes & in their own words, they were the trailblazers for the present (3/n)
Generation of cricketers to take up the sport as a career & be able to make their name in it. The moment you step into this comparison game, compare players from the same generation, not from across two separate generations...just as it’s pointless comparing Sachin (4/n)
To Sir Donald Bradman or Sir Viv Richards, it’s impossible to compare Rohit or Virat to Sachin or Sehwag or Ganguly or Dravid because they faced bowlers of a different class altogether & had to contend with being the only hopes of a still-evolving Indian team (5/n)
Which still had a lot of holes in it when these fine men commenced their careers...the game today in India is built on the contributions of these players & if these players weren’t there, then neither would Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or Mahendra Singh Dhoni be anywhere (6/n)
So to @akakrcb6 & the entire Woke IPL brigade, if you even think of attempting a personal slander here on me, I assure you that you’ll be packed off like Virender Sehwag did to Saqlain Mushtaq at Multan in 2004.
