1/4 As students go back to uni, spare a thought for those supposed to be studying/working abroad for their 3rd year. Badly let down by @ManchesterUniv saying that the year abroad (a compulsory part of their degree) is now deemed 'not essential'. @timeshighered @guardian @nusuk
2/4 Other universities have found a way to let students travel for this essential part of their degree (e.g. you can’t become fluent in french without being in France), but @ManchesterUniv are very much ‘computer says no’ on this.
3/4 It will be a total waste of £50k of debt if they are not allowed to travel. Their degree/fluency will not be comparable to those whose universities found a way to let them travel. @ManchesterUniv is offering an online course as the alternative. Not even close to equivalent.
4/4 conclusion: do not go to @ManchesterUniv if you want to study languages. They do not have your best interests at heart. They will not do everything they can to help you achieve. #manchesterunisaysno
