Commissioner Kevin Warren and the presidents mis-read the room and had a total lack of self-awareness about where it stood in the college athletic landscape. It thought it could be the leader that caused the dominoes to fall. When they didn't, it went into scramble mode (2/5)
It realized that its schools are going to suffer a significant setback that will take years to dig out of. At the same time, it realized that its current players -- which it claimed to be protecting -- began searching for other ways to live out their professional dreams (3/5)
Isn't that what college is for? People advancing to find ways to live out their dreams no matter what those dreams are? It put selfishness and arrogance ahead of its primary purpose -- facilitating dreams for young men and women who want to pursue careers in sports (4/5)
Simply put, this new vote and all of the drama that has occurred over the last few weeks isn't about anything other than saving face. If it cites anything else, the conference is being totally disingenuous. (5/5)
