THREAD

We want you to be informed about your return to @cardiffmet so this thread will share everything we currently know about what life will be like when you join us and what is being done to keep you safe. This may change so check back for updates when we get them.
If you suspect that you are displaying signs of Covid-19, get tested ( http://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test) and follow the self-isolation guidance ( http://gov.wales/self-isolation-stay-home-guidance-households-possible-coronavirus).

Symptoms include a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of or change to sense of smell or taste.
If you test positive, the University will be told via the ‘Test, Trace, Protect’ process. You should also tell your School as you would for any other illness.

A new NHS track and trace app is set for release in September and we’ll share the link when it is released.
Life on campus will be different, lots has been done over the summer to keep you as safe as possible.

You will need a face covering, sanitizer stations are placed around campus and there are one-way systems in place.

Also, please wash your hands regularly!
Building capacities have been reduced and lots of teaching will take place online. Covid Officers will monitor capacities and remind you about distancing, face coverings and hand washing. SU buildings (Centro and Zen) and Uni buildings will all be operating at a reduced capacity.
With lots of teaching taking place online, you should get familiar with Microsoft Teams.

IT have produced a handy guide on how to use it ( http://study.cardiffmet.ac.uk/IT/Pages/MSTeams.aspx).

There is also advice on things like connecting to campus Wifi and using student emails on this page.
The SU has introduced a new app-based ordering system which includes track and trace.

Food and drink will be brought to your table and we will be cleaning even more than usual.

Contactless payments are preferable on campus so if you can, please use your card or phone to pay.
Covered outdoor social spaces have been created on both campuses and many buildings have improved ventilation systems in place to increase fresh airflow so you might want to think about bringing an extra jumper or coat to campus.
If you are living in Cardiff Met halls, you and your flatmates will be classed as a ‘household’ which follows Welsh Gov guidance.

The halls team will be releasing a Covid guidance leaflet for all residents and students living in halls can follow @MetResLife for future updates.
International students can access a free airport pick-ups from selected airports and accommodation for 14 days self-isolation on arrival to the UK: https://buff.ly/3iUTs2w

If you are commuting to campus, face coverings are now mandatory on public transport including trains and buses in Wales.

If possible, try to travel at off peak times to reduce the amount of people you come in to contact with and maintain a 2-metre distance whenever you can.
We have partnered with Dragon Taxis on a safe taxi scheme https://www.dragontaxis.com/our-services/students/cardiff-metropolitan/

Cardiff also has a NextBike scheme with stations around the city https://www.nextbike.co.uk/en/cardiff/
We have been informed that the MetRider service will not be running this year.

We have asked the University for details on alternative options.
The application process for students parking can be found here under the student parking tab ( http://www.cardiffmet.ac.uk/about/campuses/Pages/Managed-Parking.aspx).

As per our Annual Report ( http://issuu.com/cardiffmetsu/docs/cardiff_met_su_annual_report_2019-20/1?ff) we will push to release as many spaces for students as possible.
Indoor meetings of more than six people from an extended household are now illegal in Wales and we advise you not to attend unmanaged events like house parties. We're organizing managed social events on campus and online activities through freshers ( https://bit.ly/2FwIFNN )
