. @LouBell here - i'm excited, and a little nervous, to be the first takeover for #FWWandPopCulture. I'm here all week and will be talking about some of the different work I did during the centenary primarily, as well as public engagement in general.
For those who don't know me, i'm going to do a few brief introductory tweets to begin. My research is mainly on those who lost limbs as a result of #ww1 and prostheses. Next month, i'm going to be starting a PhD looking at prostheses and the two world wars #FWWandPopCulture
Outwith this I'm also involved with a lot of great history making places/initiatives (e.g. @Herstory_Club; @NHSat70; @socialhistsoc and @womenslibrary) All of which promote public engagement and public history in their own ways, and are worth checking out! đŸ€“đŸ˜ #FWWandPopCulture
Looking back to the centenary, I worked as the First World War Diverse Histories Researcher at @UkNatArchives (from 2015-2018) and the work that I did there will form the basis of what we discuss over this week. #FWWandPopCulture
I worked in the public history team, not the military history team, but I was very much immersed in both worlds. Research was my primary role, but I also had to disseminate what I found in various (interesting đŸ€ž) ways. #FWWandPopCulture
This took the form of your usual public talks and conference papers; as well as blog posts and small exhibitions (as well as one big one, which we'll come back to later); working with other museums; and obviously the use of Twitter. #FWWandPopCulture https://blog.nationalarchives.gov.uk/author/lbell/
Over the rest of the week, i'm going to focus on various exciting (or I think so...) projects that I worked on, which highlight means of engagement within the archive & museum sector. And look at how potentially difficult topics can be brought to wider audiences #FWWandPopCulture
For today though, I would be really interested to hear about projects that stemmed from archives/museums and which you think have done a good job of conveying some aspect of the First World War? #FWWandPopCulture
