I went to Poundbury on Saturday. Don't believe the haters! There are certainly better & worse sections, with the developers learning as they went on, but it is by and large a success, and some areas are beautiful.

The urbanism complements the architecture. Almost all streets are narrow. Cars are present, but mostly hidden in back alleys. Best of all, the fine grained street pattern means it is easy to walk or cycle in an almost direct route to anywhere you want to go.

Every local we spoke to was a firm fan. It was pleasant to be in a place where everyone was so enthusiastic about & proud of the place they lived.
