Leeds 3rd goal against Liverpool. Build up to finish.
As always LFC take their time on the throw and move around to create space for one another.
Just before the throw, Hendo goes off for Curtis. Chief communicator gone from the pitch.
Black circles are LFC, Blue circle is Klich
Trent's poor throw is intercepted and headed directly to a Leeds player. The three midfielders are still in the right position. Defending the zones according to their position from the throw in.
Curtis applies pressure on the player with the ball. Whereas Klich recognises the vacant space in the centre of the park and starts to move there to exploit it. Ball moves towards the centre and is passed to Klich. Trent and Curtis don't react to the shift.
Klich passes the ball to Costa and Leeds not only retain possession from a LFC throw but switch the play too. Look at the gap bw TAA & Gomez. Curtis is moving towards the right position defensively albeit slowly.
Ball successfully switched by Leeds. VvD moves left because he sees a runner (Mane was covering the passing lane though + would track that runner if ball is played on the line) but in the process vacates the central space inside the box.
Curtis is ball watching as Klich recognises the space and makes his run into the space to exploit it. Fabinho also ball watching. Gini as the LCM is defending his zone.
Robbo doesn't press (why!?),makes me remember when JK said wrt to defending crosses and problems in general, "we have to cut the problems out from the source. No crosses, defenders/GK doesn't need to deal with it"
Gini still holding his zone right and waiting for the lateral >
> pass, once that happens he can press that player. Curtis is still ball watching. Trent is still not reacting and getting compact. Split wide open defence, gomez 2v1 bang at the penalty spot. Fabinho also doesn't plug the hole, ball watching.
Pin point ball from Costa is received by Klich. VvD is completely taken out of the equation with that pass. Bad positioning and decision making on his part to get swayed away from his zone. Probably the mistake lingered on his head.
Klich's first touch here is mad good and the finish equally good.
WHO IS AT FAULT THEN?
From a bare basic pov, Curtis for not following his man. Gini can't mark him cz he knows there is a CM behind him and Klich is now that CM's responsibility since the ball has been switched.

From an analytical pov, Robbo, VvD, Trent and Curtis. >
> Collective error. Robbo presses, ball doesn't go in. If Robbo doesn't press, VvD is in postn ball is cleared. If Trent is compact, Gomez will apply better pressure on Klich and make it tough. But all this aside, if Curtis follows the runner all these mistakes get covered
Disclaimer: This is not Curtis or LFC slander. Just an analytical thread.
GINI IS NOT AT FAULT FOR THIS GOAL.
Also saying Curtis is young and you can't expect him to do this and run, well this is LFC and the stakes are high and tactical roles are complex just like it is in >
> Football at the top most level. He certainly has to do better than this and the good thing is he has a great coach and great team mates to help him grow plus LFC didn't lose this match so that makes it a tad bit easy to take in.
