To escape from the postmodern dominance of simulacra is not so easy in secular terms. For Pomo is so far right: there are no unmediated, unrepresented or ‘added to’ facts. This implies nihilism unless additive expression itself can be better or worse expression, lured by a telos.

This was always one pillar of Radical Orthodoxy. Modernity itself points to the postmodern outside a crude positivism without critical standing. Hence there is no possible retreat to old humanism/scientism. The only viable critique of pomo is religious: creativity as methexis.

Therefore no secular forces have the capacity to defeat Trumpery/Johnsonianism. John Harris’s acute critical despair in the Guardian today negatively points to that.
