everything wrong with this thread: a thread https://twitter.com/everythinvirgos/status/1304932883354722304">https://twitter.com/everythin...
first point is that it was clearly written by a conceited narcissist who believes their opinions equal gold and can’t reap the consequences of posting a condescending and passive aggressive thread insulting all kpop fans, minus their own fandom.
- they assume that ALL ‘kpop stans’ don’t care about their faves music, that it’s all a ‘competitive game’ to them and that they treat idols like ‘collectables’ which is a huge generalisation and extremely condescending. not to mention a very rude assumption to make.
- they claim that all kpop stans ‘derive personal satisfaction and fulfilment’ from ‘fanwars and fancams’. which is ironic seeing that they are obviously trying to do just that with this thread. so hypocritical
- they think all fans treat ca as if it’s just ammunition in some online pop culture war. ignoring the well known fact that fans work very hard to educate kpop stars on these issues.
- they assume all fans simply use their faves in a game of ‘who comes out on top?’
- they assume all fans simply use their faves in a game of ‘who comes out on top?’
this is an extremely hypocritical and ignorant statement given a chuck of their fandoms particular track record.
- assuming all ‘western stans’ are lesser just because they’re ‘new to the conversation’ which isn’t even true.
- assuming all ‘western stans’ are lesser just because they’re ‘new to the conversation’ which isn’t even true.
- claiming all fans commodify their faves in order to live vicariously thru them to give themselves a sense of superiority cause ‘they stan someone more successful’ — completely ignoring that members of their own fandom are known for doing just that.
- ignoring the fact that they themselves are acting out for the same reasons by posting this thread. and ignoring that fans ‘take it personally’ not bc they’re ‘tied to their fave’ but, bc they look up to, love and care about them.
- they ramble on about all kpop fans wanting to feel superior and yet give the perfect example of their own extreme superiority complex by saying ‘bts is inarguably outdoing their faves in every aspect’.
- thinks that just bc other groups don’t share the same success as bts that they’re ‘failures’.
- believes the ‘bts paved the way’ nonsense as if all validation lies in western acceptance.
- believes the ‘bts paved the way’ nonsense as if all validation lies in western acceptance.
- this one’s pretty much self explanatory — assumes that all fans make light of sexual assault allegations and don’t care at all about the toxicity of capitalism, racism and misogyny.
this one is so condescending and completely ignores their own fandoms faults and involvement in the very ‘issues’ they’ve labelled on all kpop fans.
- assumes that other fandoms don’t live up to army’s dedication to bts, don’t support their faves as people and musicians or outside the industry, which is utter bullshit.
- assumes other fandoms only support their faves bc of industry clout and accolades.
- assumes other fandoms only support their faves bc of industry clout and accolades.
the only okay point they made was at the very end and even then they managed to use it to fuel their disgusting superiority complex and make light of the toxicity of their own fandom.
no group is superior to another. everyone’s hard work and success is their own and cannot be accredited to one group. gross generalisation isn’t cute and degrading others isn’t edgy. being hypocritical and in denial seems to be the new norm and it needs to stop.
