Recruiters don't automatically provide you with all the details about a vacancy, sometimes you have to be proactive & ask the right questions. Especially if you want to evaluate if the opportunity is worth pursuing. When you get approached for a job, here are questions to ask;
1. Is it a new position or are they replacing someone? If its a replacement, how long was the previous person in the role?

2. How long has the vacancy been open? If over 1yr, this could be a red flag. People may be rejecting the offers or the line manager is fussy & unrealistic
3. How quickly do they want to fill the role?

4. What are the recruitment steps and how long do they anticipate each step to take?

5. What does the ideal candidate look like (this is if you have not received a detailed job spec)?
6. What is the structure of the department (gives you an idea of how your career may progress or where the role sits in the hierarchy).

7. Is there anything in particular about your experience/CV that stood out for them (gives you an idea of your competitive advantage).
If the recruiter can not provide you detailed answers for most of these questions, it can be a red flag that they are trying to sell you a position they have not researched well themselves.
